Seminole Casino Coconut Creek will open an addition to its casino on Friday, adding 375 slots, 10 blackjack tables, a new restaurant and a bar.
The new building will be called “The Site,” deriving its name from the facility’s overall theme – that of a construction site – complete with an actual lunch wagon in its restaurant, called “Whistle Stop.”
Seminole Coconut Creek general manager Steve Bonner will christen the site at noon Friday, using a sledgehammer to bash through the existing casino into the new wing. The public is invited and encouraged, he said. The casino is at 5550 NW 50th St., Coconut Creek.
The Site is the second step in a multi-phase plan that will eventually create an entertainment destination center, restaurants, shopping and nightclubs.
The new building resembles a sturdy, large tent, Coconut Creek officials said. It is called a “sprung” structure. (I have a link here to a generic FAQ.) It will have the casino’s first non-smoking area.
The Seminoles have put $275 million toward expansion at four Seminole properties in Florida, with $125 million of it set for Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. On Wednesday, the tribe opened a $50 million parking garage at the Hollywood Hard Rock garage, and work is also in progress for $75 million for the Tampa Hard Rock and $25 for Seminole Hollywood Classic for improvements.
